Two analysts, a tight deadline, nothing built yet — that's where this one started. I carried it end to end: architecture, delivery, the maintenance after launch, the case made for it in rooms that needed convincing. It scaled into something used well beyond the team that built it. None of that was inevitable. Most of it was staying with it past the point where staying was interesting. The work since has widened — engineering across several parts of the bank, the standards that keep it from drifting apart. More of the week now goes to people than to code: hiring, mentoring, sitting with someone while they work through a problem. Some of it is still code, when there's room for it. Mostly it isn't anymore. It still feels like building.
